Roles & permissions

Updated July 2026 · 1 min read

Every workspace member has a role that decides what they can see and change. Use the lowest level that still lets someone do their job.

The roles

TagVolt uses three levels, applied per workspace:

  • Owner — full control. Manages the workspace itself, its members and roles, and billing. Every workspace has at least one Owner.
  • Admin — day-to-day management. Can create and configure containers, add custom domains and invite members, but can't delete the workspace or change billing.
  • Member — hands-on tagging work. Can work inside containers — run preview and debug sessions, check logs — without touching workspace-level settings like domains or team access.

Roles apply per workspace. The same person can be an Admin in one client's workspace and a Member in another's — see Invite team members.

Picking the right role

  • Give clients Member if they just need visibility into their own tracking.
  • Give the people who set up containers and domains Admin.
  • Keep Owner for whoever answers for the account — usually one or two people.

Change a role

  1. Open the workspace's Team section.
  2. Find the person in the member list and change the role next to their name.
  3. The change applies straight away — no re-invite needed.

Hand out Owner sparingly: Owners can remove other members, change every setting and delete the workspace.
